Sublime Second Day at the SPAR & Tops at SPAR Indoor Hockey IPT

The nature of an Indoor Hockey IPT is that its fast and furious and the games come at you quickly. The second day of action continued in the same vein as the opening day with plenty of goals and excitement in a great display of indoor hockey.

Men’s A Section

  • One round left of pool stage play with the semi-finalists not yet fully decided.
  • Northern Blues snatched a late draw with Cameron le Forestier scoring in the last minute to share the points with defending champions Western Province
  • Mpumalanga bounced back from opening day defeat with a late 4-3 over KZN Mynahs. Keanu Pienaar scored twice in the final quarter to turn the game around again.
  • WP Peninsula won the battle of the “B sides” beating SG Witsies 8-3 largely inspired by four goals by Corben O’Ryan with a hat-trick from Ray Bonnet.
  • KZN Raiders led for 30 minutes after Darryl Lotter’s early goal before Southern Gauteng levelled late with Tristan Fredericks.

Women’s A Section

  • WP Pens got the day off to a perfect start with a 5-0 win over Mpumalanga with Tanya Pieterse netting a hat-trick.
  • Northern Blues and Western Province played out an exciting 2-2 draw with Emily Macquet brace for the Pretoria side.
  • KZN Raiders bounced back with a 3-0 win captain Tatum Kroutz netting against North West.
  • Southern Gauteng scored twice early, including one for captain Robyn Johnson and held on for a 2-1 win against SG Witsies.
  • Kayla de Waal scored a hat-trick for Western Province in their big win 7-3 over WP Peninsula
  • Northern Blues were superb in their 8-0 dismissal of Mpumalanga. Both Anja Tromp and Elizabeth Porter both got braces.
  • KZN Raiders secured their place in the Semi-Final with a nail biting 4-3 win over SG Witsies. Chardinay Penniston struck a late blow to a brilliant Witsies fight back that kept the defending champions in contention.
  • Southern Gauteng were too good for North West and maintained their perfect results in the tournament winning 4-0 with Paris-Gail Isaacs netting the first.

Semi-Finals (28 February)
15:00 – Southern Gauteng vs. Northern Blues
16:10 – Western Province vs. KZN Raiders

Men’s B Section

  • Northern Daisies completed a perfect day with two big wins. They won 6-0 against Mpumalanga B with Cobus Odendaal and Ivan Engelbrecht scoring twice each. They also defeated Eastern Gauteng 5-1 as Odendaal scored another brace.
  • KZN Inland handed Eastern Gauteng their second defeat of the day winning 6-2. Brunton Bigalke scored in the first two quarters.
  • Mpumalanga B bounced back from defeat to winning 5-3 against KZN Inland with Logan Den Bakker scoring two.

Semi-Finals (28 February)
09:10 – Northern Daisies vs. Eastern Gauteng
11:30 – Mpumalanga B vs. KZN Inland

Women’s B Section

  • Northerns Invitational are the top side from the pool stage, they got two 3-0 wins on the final day of group stage. Daniela Patrizi netted twice in the win against KZN Inland while earning another one against Eastern Gauteng.
  • Southerns Invitational earned an exciting 4-2 win over Eastern Gauteng thanks to a Georgie Prince double.
  • KZN Inland and Southerns Invitational played out a pulsating 3-3 draw With Danika Ramroop netting the equaliser late on for the Invitational side.

10:20 – Northerns Invitational vs. Eastern Gauteng
12:40 – KZN Inland vs. Southerns Invitational
