SPAR South Africa Womens Team named for Ireland Test Series

The SPAR South African women’s hockey team has been named for the six match test series against Ireland in December in Cape Town. The two teams have created a wonderful rivalry in recent years having played 11 tests over two test series including the series in Dublin in January.

The Irish secured their first victory against South Africa in Dublin before losing the series and they have named a team with the objective of growing on the indoor courts. For SPAR South Africa it’s the opportunity to make final assessments, test combinations and align for the FIH Hockey Indoor World Cup in Pretoria in February 2023.

From the team that recently took part in a test series in Namibia there are a few changes for the South Africans including the recall of experienced duo Cheree Greyvenstein and Eloise Walters. There is also the opportunity for Chardinay Penniston to earn her first International Cap.

Coach Lennie Botha, who has led the team for 118 tests, looked forward to the series:

“Once again we thank SPAR for the support in running the series. Our focus is on testing one or two combinations ahead of the FIH Hockey World Cup. Ireland is a great opponent who have really put a lot of time and effort into indoor hockey over the past 24 months and we look forward to testing ourselves against them once again!”
